A New Cycle Begins

Welcome, curious minds and wonderfully perplexed souls, to the start of another Cycle in the Offbeat League. As always, this new Cycle promises the unexpected, with players who are as predictably unpredictable as ever.

You’ll find Gorilla Greg (New York Climbers) scaling skyscrapers with poetic flair, Halflequin (Derry Ballooons [sic]) attempting balloon creations that will, inevitably, burst in the most curious ways, Zombie Number 228 (Atlanta Nordic Walkers) and his walking poles shuffling forward with uncanny persistence, and of course, The Couch (Harlem Couch Potatoes), who may or may not move at all (but always manages to be in the right spot when it counts). Usually it's in The Couch's Corner sharing his wisdom. And if we're lucky, we'll also catch the infamous brick drop from The Krazy K and Anka Steinbrecher of Berlin Wall BreakDancers.

The Offbeat League has never been about following rules; we leave that to lesser sports. Here, we celebrate the absurdity that Friday the 13th gave birth to—a joyous upheaval against the rigid, where referees might break into interpretive dance, unless they are named Art Steelmoor, and points can be scored for losing your hat in style.

So, dear fans, throw away your expectations along with any ideas of a regular cycle. This Cycle, like every one before it, is a leap into the unknown, and as always, we wouldn't have it any other way. Buckle up—or don’t—and prepare for the delightful mayhem to come.

May your day be delightfully offbeat,
Eloise Inkwell
